Conclusion

The idea of practicum worried me at the beginning. I didn't feel as if I was ready to teach, and I thought that preparing for lessons will take lots of time which might affect my grades. But there are a couple of reasons that erased this feeling of nervousness. The main one is the teacher who is in charge of our group. He is such an understanding teacher, he didn't ask for complicated activities, nor was he a very demanding person. Which made my experience much more enjoyable and comfortable. Also, the moment I stood in Infront of the class and introduced myself as an English teacher I felt like really getting my confidence back.

One of the obstacles I faced during the second semester was related to the oral proficiency course. In the second semester, we learned that our lessons should be based on the oral proficiency curriculum. But in the schools where we do the practicum, their semester was about to end. So, most classes I had to teach should have been about exam revisions. On all days of practicum, my colleague and I taught four classes per day, but when the end of the semester approached, we used to teach fewer classes. For example, one Thursday, we taught only one lesson, related to a grammar subject in the English exam, while the rest of the classes had a math test. But after the end of the Eid holiday, which lasted for about two weeks, I successfully taught most of the oral proficiency course lessons.

Another obstacle I encountered during this practicum was the students talking to each other in class. To stand in the middle of the class and say calm down or personally ask each student to keep it quiet works sometimes but not always. Honestly, I did not know the solution to this problem. But with time, I felt that the students no longer spoke as much as before. Then I realized the reason, which is that the students no longer saw me as a student at Al Qasimi College, but rather began to respect me and my colleague as English language teachers. Also, what helped me to reach every student more and make the lesson as effective as possible is that now I know each student's weaknesses, which made teaching much easier for me.

My first practicum experience ended successfully with outstanding results. I went through many new experiences and challenges. Some of them were difficult while others were beautiful memories that will remain in my memory forever. Therefore, I advise all new students in their practicum to deal with the difficulties they will face in the beginning with ease because they will fade with time, but rather they will be experiences that will be profited from in the future.
