Lesson Plan 1

The poem Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost

- My Own Comments on the class and students' reactions:

The warm-up went just as planned because it took exactly 10 min and not more. Students loved the idea of drawing as a start for the lesson. But few of them weren’t excited about it. The reading of the poem was divided between two students, and each one of them read four lines. And they read it well because the reading of the poem in the video helped them.

As soon as I talked about the Kahoot activity, all students were excited and ready to participate even the students who barely participated in reading and explaining the poem. The literary devices questions were a bit competitive for the students so the timing for each question was perfectly suitable since I got enough time to explain each question to the students. And that helped since the number of mistakes they made decreased at the end of the activity showing their understanding of the poem. After the Kahoot activity, there were still 2 minutes left before the class ended so the teacher asked students if they like poems. And there were some interesting answers such as one student saying that he loves poem but only if it is in his native language.

- Extra! Comments on the lesson plan from a classmate:

First of all, the warm-up of this lesson plan is a great new idea, but I think that this step may be suitable for the seventh-grade class and not the ninth-grade class because they might think it is a bit childish for them, but it remains a very creative idea. As for the video, I liked that you chose a two-minute video since students get tired of long videos that include a lot of explanation as that complicates the lesson for them. I also loved that the video contains a reading of the poem and not just an explanation of it.

As for the conclusion, the Kahoot activity is beautifully designed as it contains a variety of questions about literary devices in a poem and questions about the meanings of words from the poem in Arabic. Because this will help the students to understand the poem even better, especially since the type of this poem is new to the students and they have not experienced it before, and its level is slightly higher than usual. Overall, this lesson plan is quite suitable for students' levels.
