Lesson Plan 2
Informal conversation in English
- My Own Comments on the class and students' reaction
Starting with the lesson, the warm-up went surprisingly even better than planned because most of the students wanted to answer the two questions presented especially the question: Do you know how to win any conversation? It appears that students were so active Because they never thought about conversations and the way they speak as something that can be improved.
After watching the video, discussing and explaining it. was time for the group activity. But when it came to dividing the class into six groups, that took more time than the teacher planned. Resulting in the activity taking 20 minutes instead of 15. So, the closure was only 5 minutes instead of 10.
When the activity began some students asked about the meaning of the birthday theme questions:
Do you think birthdays have become too commercial?
Do you think everyone should have a holiday from school or work on their birthday?
So, the teacher explained them. Then the activity went smoothly. And students loved the closure since they got to hear others' weird and funny answers.
- Extra! Comments about the lesson plan from a classmate
I liked the warm-up because it is suitable and simple to start this lesson and it will make students excited. But the video chosen might be a bit hard for some students in the seventh-grade classes. So, you should stop the video every often to explain what’s said to assure all students understand. Or you can show only half of the video and not all of it.
Integrating activities that require group work Is a very clever idea since students love to work in groups. And I loved the idea of having different themes for the question such as birthdays and animals. As for the closure, I don’t think it would take 10 minutes as it's written in the lesson plan but rather less, maybe 5 minutes.
